At the Intersection of What If & Why Not

What if?

Why not?

Ah, so many decisions I’ve made in life and in business come at the intersection of these two simple, yet impactful questions.

What if I could press the record button on the conversations that I’m having every day - the ones that leave me feeling inspired, encouraged, informed and heard?

What if all the wisdom I’m accumulating didn’t rest with me, but could be shared with others?

Why not?

After so much research and even more learning, I’m so proud to announce that Bound & Determined: The Podcast has come to life.

On the podcast, we’ll hold space to grow with, learn from, support, and celebrate all of the women in insurance.

In this premiere episode, Allison Hamilton-Rohe and I talk about style - and after you listen, I’m sure you’ll agree that it’s so much more than the clothes we wear.

Listen to the first episode here.

Bound & Determined will resonate most with a listener who identifies as female and is working within the insurance industry. If this describes someone you know, I’d love you to pass this on!

The Head and the Heart

They say that life is about the little things, and I was reminded of this when I (finally) turned on my air conditioning this morning.

Nearly 10 years ago, when it was time to put down more permanent roots in the neighborhood I’d grown to love here in Chicago, I sat with my realtor and made a list of my “must haves” for my new place:

☑ Dedicated parking spot

☑ Outdoor living space

☑ Central air conditioning

☑ In-unit washer and dryer

I knew I was home the very first time I turned the key in the lock on the front door of the unit I’d end up buying - I could feel it in my gut. It was THE ONE - but it also had none of these "must have" features.

Over time, I'd begin renting a parking space from a neighbor, I’d work with a specialty contractor to add the washer and dryer I coveted and finally, install that central AC that made me smile this morning.

The heart and mind are constantly coordinating as we consider what is right for us - and heart often wins. In sales, we often focus on the financial aspects of the product or service we offer - lower cost or competitive terms - but we can’t overstate the significance of heart.

I’d love to know - are you a “fixer upper” or a “move-in ready” dweller? Let me know in the comments below!

Always Take The Call

“Always take the call.” As she shared more about her own career path during her talk at the Women In Tech Breakfast on Friday morning, Julia Kanouse encouraged the women in the audience to always take the call - I nodded vigorously in agreement as I considered those times that I had myself taken the call.

Pivotal opportunities in my career journey have come as a direct result of my curiosity and openness to taking the call (or the meeting or the email - you get the point)!

As I continued to seek alignment between my values and the work I was doing, even if I took no action, these conversations helped me to solidify that I was indeed in the right place, helped me to forge new connections, and provided the opportunity to glean insights into the changing landscape of the insurance industry.

On a handful of occasions, these calls came at a time when I was ready to pivot. This truly is a journey!

How about you? Have you taken a call that changed the trajectory of your career? Let me know in the comments below!
